After 20 years in the music business, the Tampa Bay based indie music duo Halcyon has decided to say "so long to the road!". Deb Hunseder and Stephanie Callahan have been a fixture on the Tampa Bay music scene since 1990. In addition to local monthly appearances at such places as the iconic Skipper's Smokehouse, the two women have been relentlessly touring, even making treks to Europe and Alaska. As incredibly rewarding as touring has been, 2 decades of driving, flying, hotel rooms, gas stations and fast food has lost its shine. But more important than that, Deb and Steph dreamed of opening a live music venue of their very own here at home. The intention being to share the many talented people they've encountered along the way with the Bay area community.
And so, with the dream becoming a reality PLAY, located at 1701 East 8th Ave in Ybor City, will be a place where they can not only continue to perform their music, but will include talented, cutting edge, independent singer-songwriters, bands and comedians. With both an indoor and outdoor stage complete with professional sound and lighting, PLAY promises to be a cornerstone for live music. In support of the community, rising stars along with seasoned veterans of the local music scene will also be welcomed to showcase their talents. In addition, there will be weekly team trivia nights, karaoke and televised sporting events.
On the patio various styles of food will be provided by local vendors. To put on fun twist on an old bar tradition, during 2-4-1 Happy Hour they'll use custom guitar picks as tokens for free drinks. Inside at the main bar and a cozy backroom lounge cocktails, excellent affordable wines by the glass and bottle, along with popular brands of domestic, imported and craft brewed beers will be offered. Refreshing frozen drinks will also be available at the patio tiki bar.
But probably the most unique feature will be the personal involvement of Deb and Steph. Over the years in the music business Stephanie has honed her skills and has emerged as a very capable sound engineer. Along with Deb's outgoing MC type personality they intend to be liaisons between both the performers and the guests providing a exceptional entertainment experience.
